Visual Review

Karaoke.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_01.24_[2014.07.18_23.30.53] [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_01.37_[2014.07.18_23.31.11]

Opening. Red’s a thematic match for the OP, and the kara effect doesn’t get in the way of it. Overall, it’s a good effort.

Rating: Good.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_22.31_[2014.07.18_23.28.48] [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_23.07_[2014.07.18_23.29.27]

Ending. An acceptable font choice and muted kfx match up for a decent kara theme.

Rating: Good.

Typesetting.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_02.46_[2014.07.18_22.10.38]

Oh man. I’d almost prefer an \an8 here.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_02.21_[2014.07.18_22.09.37]  [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_23.37_[2014.07.18_23.23.05]

At least the title typesets are cool… if you ignore the translations.

Script Review

Main Script.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_00.08_[2014.07.18_23.42.20]

No, you don’t get successful. You be successful. Unless you’re Doki, of course.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_02.30_[2014.07.18_23.44.36] [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_02.36_[2014.07.18_22.10.00] [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_02.38_[2014.07.18_22.10.06] [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_02.40_[2014.07.18_22.10.21]

The stupid’s really ruining my anime reaction faces. Doki, plz, don’t you understand that true otaku only watch anime for the silly faces?

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_04.18_[2014.07.18_22.12.19]

If it were to see anime breasts, I’d brave any danger but Doki’s subs. Ain’t no reward worth experiencing cancer firsthand.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_04.45_[2014.07.18_23.48.03]

The one true translation.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_04.56_[2014.07.18_22.13.10]

Were you home-schooled by rocks or something, Doki?

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_05.19_[2014.07.18_23.49.09]

Doesn’t get more dictionary translation than this.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_08.03_[2014.07.18_22.16.42]

The saddest thing is that Doki can’t even fuck their grammar up consistently. If they had “But once army steps in” here, letting them know how articles work would fix the issue for future releases.

But since it’s a coin-toss as to whether or not they’ll fuck these lines up, the issue is clearly not a simple misunderstanding, but rather sheer, unmitigatable stupidity. Doki staff sure make the case for forced euthanasia.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_07.05_[2014.07.18_23.25.39]

If you anagrammed solider, you’d get the right word here. Kudos to Doki for adding in clever puzzles for their viewers!

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_08.27_[2014.07.18_23.51.23] [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_08.30_[2014.07.18_23.51.39]

This script is pure, unadulterated awful. The show may not be the “best shounen of the forever” it was hyped up to be, but it deserves better than this.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_13.12_[2014.07.18_23.55.59]

I can only imagine the pow-wow around this one.

“We need to come up with a term to describe evil people.”

“Scum?”

“Not dumb enough.”

Atrocious scum?”

“…Brilliant.”

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_13.29_[2014.07.18_23.56.43]

Yes, but those are the same thing.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_14.00_[2014.07.18_22.23.10]

While a thousand monkeys with a thousand typewriters over an infinite period of time may eventually write the complete works of Shakespeare, I doubt Doki staff could accomplish writing a single decent sentence under similar circumstances.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_16.20_[2014.07.18_23.17.00]

Sometimes I think that fansubbing is one giant social experiment by the government, trying to create an army of super-morons whose mental faculties have been so reduced by years of Engrish that they actually think what they’re watching is good.

Perfect Release

Project Doki may be one of their most successful attempts.

[Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_16.48_[2014.07.18_23.17.32] [Doki] Akame ga Kill! - 02 (1280x720 Hi10P AAC) [D71C25CF].mkv_snapshot_16.50_[2014.07.18_23.17.37]

No go. We’re done here, Doki.

Watchability: Watchable.

Visual grade: B+

Script grade: D-

Overall grade: D

Every time Doki could use a stock translation, they did. And it was far more terrible than you could imagine.

There’s no reason to get this release other than morbid curiosity. Go with HorribleSubs or Vivid-Asenshi for Akame ga Kill.
